DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND PARADISE

Are they the same? Is Heaven the same as Paradise or they are separate? This is question worth discussing.
We have to understand that paradise was not mentioned in the Old Testament. In fact, the first mention of paradise in the Bible was by Jesus while he was on the cross.
Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Luke 23:42-43
Heaven on the other hand appears in the Bible about 622 times- right from Genesis to Revelation. It has been the abode of God and we all hope that when Jesus returns, he will us to Heaven to be with him.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Luke 14:2-4
Then in Matthew 6:9-13 where Jesus taught his disciples the Lord’s Prayer, he mentioned that God lives in Heaven.
This, then, is how you should pray:
9 “‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
So Heaven is the place where God is and the place Jesus will take us to. What then is paradise? Jesus told the thief on the cross that he would be with him in paradise that day. Let’s ask the great question. Where did Jesus go that day after promising the man on the cross?
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 19 After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,
1 Peter 3:18-20
If Jesus went to the hades to preach on the very day he died, and if the man on the cross went to paradise the very day Jesus died, then we can say that Paradise is related to hades.
We will conclude in a latter post titled “where do we go immediately we die?”
