WHY DOES GOD ALLOW BIRTH DEFECTS?
This is a very difficult question. It is similar to and a subset of ‘Why does God allow bad things to happen?’. Atheists, agnostics, and people who try to challenge the existence of God raise such questions to make their case.
WHY DOES GOD ALLOW BIRTH DEFECTS?
This is a very difficult question. It is similar to and a subset of ‘Why does God allow bad things to happen?’. Atheists, agnostics, and people who try to challenge the existence of God raise such questions to make their case.
The answer to this question is that when Adam and Eve sinned, their sin opened doors for a number of wickedness and bad things to enter the world. Things such as pain, death, trauma, disease, and of course deformities entered the world through sin. The abnormalities do not occur because of the sins of the parents of the baby. It rather occurs because of sin itself. The bone of contention now is Why doesn't God stop birth defects before they happen but rather allow them to happen to us.
To understand this, let us refer to 2 Corinthians 4:4 which states that
In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
2 Corinthians 4:4
The Bible verse above refers to Satan as the god of this world. This implies that God is not in control of this world. There is a god for this world who in in charge of the happenings taking place in this world. The world is just trying to make God unpopular by referring to unfortunate circumstances of this world as act of God. This is to make God responsible for the earthquakes, floods, typhoons and fire outbreaks that occur across the world.
But the truth is that When God created the world, he made man in charge of it. God didn’t take charge of the world. There came a turn of events when man sold the power to the devil in the story of the fall of man. So God does not allow birth defects. It is rather the consequence of sin entering the world.
