WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HONEYMOON.

By Elijah Asuo Wiredu

honeymoon is a holiday taken by a newly wedded couple just after their wedding, to celebrate their marriage. It is when the marriage is finally consummated and important decisions are taken. In Africa, marriage ceremonies are a real business and one really gets worn out when all is said and done. As a result, one needs some time to rest and recover from the fatigue of the stressful program.

The Bible has not been silent on honeymoon since the children of God are also involved. However, some of the positions of honeymoon by the standards of the Bible are very loud.

If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year, he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.

Deuteronomy 24:5

In the verse above, God through his prophet Moses told his people to exempt a newly married man from war. Additionally, there should not be any duty laid in him apart from the exemption from war. God even went ahead to say that this exemption from war and any other duties should continue for a whole year. Of course, this will not be feasible in many countries of the world today. How many employers will pay an employee for one year when they are not working? However, it attests to the fact that God respects the concept of honeymoon and wants his people to use the honeymoon to take some rest from their daily hassles and also make their newly wedded wives happy.
